    Wilmington Town Meeting Recap: Budget, Circus Animal Ban Pass

    “Article 65, the circus act ban, initially appeared to fail by voice vote, but when it was revoted by standing count, turned out to have passed 84-74.”

    This was a very close call and shows that if more of us call, write, and appear in person it can have a significant effect on the outcome of these small municipal bans. There may even be potential to have this ruling overturned.

    Animal Issues Legislative Update

    Iowa HF737​ was signed into law by Governor Reynolds this week. The bill summary is as follows, ​“House File 737, an Act relating to the regulation of persons involved with animals other than livestock and certain wild animals, providing for criminal offenses and court orders associated with animal mistreatment, and including penalties.”

    A woman is suing HSUS for raiding her house and confiscating her dogs. Ms.Fay was a dog breeder and several of her dogs died when HSUS took them into custody. Humane Society of the United States Sued for $35 Million Over Dog Seizure

    Ryan Easley has owned and cared for his tigers for a few years now. He normally spends the summers doing educational tiger shows at Circus World in Baraboo. Last fall he purchased new land for his winter quarters and then the pandemic hit.
