    Outstanding Opportunity – OABA President

The Board of Directors of the Outdoor Amusement Business Association, Inc., a national trade association representing the mobile amusement industry for over 50 years, is seeking a highly qualified professional as its new President.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an outgoing problem solver with proven leadership skills to oversee this member-centric organization and further expand the association’s reach of services on behalf of its Board, membership and other stakeholders.  The ideal candidate must be thoroughly committed to the OABA’s mission and strategy, thrive on innovation, have over 10 years’ experience in the amusement industry, and continue to grow the organization by expanding the accomplishments of a long-tenured and highly successful incumbent, who is retiring.

As President, this individual develops working relationships with other amusement industry trade associations and supporting organizations to help solve mutual issues.  Individuals with amusement industry experience will be given a high priority in the applicant screening process by the OABA’s Organization and Search Committee.  The successful candidate will possess proven leadership skills, working through others to accomplish goals, combined with the ability to collaborate and work with a wide array of members, manufacturers/suppliers, regulators and legislators.    This position, with its support staff, is currently based in the Central Florida area.

For Immediate Release: September 10, 2018
    By OABA Chair Jay Strates

President Robert Johnson Announces his Retirement in 2019

Last month our President, Bob Johnson, announced to the OABA Board and staff that he plans to retire in February 2019, after having served this trade association exceptionally well for almost 25 years.  While Bob and his wife Alex are looking forward to visiting with family on the West Coast, traveling and pursuing their retirement dreams, Bob will not completely “sail off into the sunset”, as he is passionate about the great families that comprise our membership and the  amusement industry where he has worked for 41 years, and I have asked him to assist us in the transition.

When Bob informally told me of his plans last year, after our Strategic Planning Committee session, I formed an Organization Committee, comprised of our Executive Board and several Trustees, led by OABA past Chair E. J. Dean.  This Committee has already developed a timeline and has begun its highly confidential search for a well-qualified successor.  Our goal is to announce and introduce the new President to the membership at the February Annual Meeting.  We are grateful to other trade associations for helping us in our search by placing our recruitment advertising in communications to their members.  We have also retained the human resource firm of Strickland Associates in Winter Park, Florida, to assist us with our search.

Please join me and our Board in congratulating Bob for over two decades of leadership to the OABA and his many career accomplishments with this national trade association as our CEO.
