From the desk of Vanessa Gagne:

The Welde Bears at Bearadise Ranch in Florida are in desperate need of help.  In spring, right when the pandemic hit, Mrs. Welde, who continues the legacy of her late husband’s family’s life with bears, was denied the renewal of her Florida Fish and Wildlife (FFW) permit.  Without any clear violation and a completely clean operating record from both FFW and USDA, Mrs. Welde was totally blindsided by this development.  Just a few days later she was contacted by PeTA directly with a message that they knew her permit had been denied and that they would gladly remove the bears from her property and transfer them to an animal rights sanctuary in Colorado.  Of course she ignored the message and continued on with the construction of new fencing and yards, something her inspector said would help her get her license back.  We are now several months past any good answers or reasons as to why she is being targeted and outright bullied by this Florida regulatory body, other than we can clearly see PeTA is the man behind the curtain.  Readers, I am asking you to please contact the governor and attorney general of Florida and demand an investigation into the actions of FFW.  These people must be held accountable for their blatant disregard and impugnment of a longstanding licensee and small business owner in the state of Florida.  A sample letter can be found here

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky will be introducing new federal horse racing regulations this week in the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act of 2020.  The bill is being endorsed by Churchill Downs and several other racehorse affiliates including the Jockey Club.

California SB 1175 was defeated in the senate. The bill would have negatively affected the legal importation of African species to the state of California, all due to panic from the coronavirus. Thank you to Dallas Safari Club for the timely updates.

Gold Medal Introduces Ready-to-Eat Gourmet Popcorn Line

Concession equipment and supplies leader, Gold Medal Products Co. has officially launched its retail-ready prepackaged gourmet popcorn line. Gold Medal’s most popular signature gourmet popcorn recipes are now available to retailers, concession stands, and other venues in a variety of flavors and sizes. This news comes as many stores and venues are now opting to serve more prepackaged food items.

The integrity of Gold Medal’s Gourmet Popcorn line is linked to its unique, thorough process and state-of-the-art production equipment manufactured by Gold Medal. Carefully crafted in small batches, it is made to create exceptional quality flavor profiles. One of the distinguishing features is that the popcorn is wet popped, which means the kernels are popped in specially designed oils and seasonings for maximum flavor. In addition, to promote a rich coating, the popcorn is gently mixed in an artisan fashion rather than a commercial spray-on method. These flavors are timeless and reflect classic tastes that consumers know and love:

    • Old-Fashioned Caramel Corn
    • Cheddar Cheese Corn
    • Caramel & Cheese Corn Mix
    • Movie Theater Style Butter Popcorn
    • Kettle Corn

The products are also Kosher and Halal-certified and are gluten-free. Packaging options include a convenient grab-and-go size, larger retail size, and bulk.

“Throughout our 89-year history, Gold Medal has earned a reputation for excellence in the popcorn industry and we are excited to now bring that same unmistakable quality to our ready-to-eat gourmet popcorn line.,” says Gold Medal president, Adam Browning.

For more details or to order, simply call 800-543-0862 or visit the Gold Medal website, gmpopcorn.com.

Folks in California - be aware of Prop 15 which would increase property taxes on commercial properties.  This would negatively affect farmers in the state who have protections in place from a previous piece of legislation, Prop 13.  It doesn’t directly affect the land or property, but it does use new definitions for equipment and buildings that would be used on a farm such as irrigation systems and barns.  To read a more in depth description of the proposition and its potential outcomes, Protect the Harvest has some great literature available.  Here is an article from the Modesto Bee:
