Some good news and bad news on the legislative front --
MO HB 559, the Working Animal Protection Act (to protect the use of animals in entertainment, exhibition, commerce, etc.) passed the Missouri House this week and is now being considered in the Senate Agriculture Committee.
RI SB 167, to prohibit the use of wild or exotic animals in traveling animal acts, had a hearing on April 4, and the Committee recommended the measure be held for further study (which means the bill is most likely dead for the year, but we will keep monitoring just in case)
CA SB 313, to ban the use of wild/exotic animals in traveling acts, unfortunately passed favorably out of the Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee this week. It has now been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
